Rocks

How do rocks get in your shoes? My shoes are snug around my ankes, and when I walk across a gravelly field, I get rocks in them. But when you think about it, the rock would have had to get kicked up and land in the nook between your shoe and your leg/ankle, and then work its way down. Certainly this would be detectable, but no one every notices it. Just the sting when it works its way to your heel. Plus the fact that your pant leg covers the area.
